After attending today’s Creative Mornings talk, I admit I’ve been in a creative rut lately. I’ll find something that sparks my interest and quickly put that on the backburner while I continue to work and do daily tasks. Truth is creativity is the fuel for everything, and I really want to start learning some new tricks of the trade and continue to improve on what I do know.
I was inspired by Rebecca of From Roses and her post on ‘Creative Things I Want to Learn and Do‘ and it definitely reminded me of the list I’ve mentally created in the past year of things I want to start doing. I love how my job pushes my creative limits, but I haven’t taken the time out to practice and do more outside of work. I’m hoping to look at this list a year from now with everything crossed off and to share how far I’ve come with the progress I’ve made!
Here are the 10 creative things I want to start learning and practicing:
- Take a calligraphy class and learn handlettering
- Learn code and develop my own website
- Practice photography and get acquainted with different lenses and uses
- Utilize Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator more
- Experiment with videography and video content
- Contribute to online magazines + blogs
- Attend a creative conference within the next year
- Write every day
- Learn to play an instrument
- Get more creative with my cooking
I’m working on a few of these right now, and I’m looking forward to how these will help me both as a professional in the media industry and a creative.
